Delta to resume Anchorage flights after earthquake, issues waiver

Delta plans to operate a full schedule to Ted Stevens International Airport on Friday, though on a delayed basis.

 

Delta plans to operate a full schedule to Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport Friday, albeit on a delayed basis, after a magnitude 7 earthquake struck near the airfield around 9:30 a.m. The FAA has lifted a ground stop that held flights while officials evaluated facility and infrastructure damage.

A travel waiver has been issued for Anchorage and Fairbanks airports allowing customers to adjust their travel plans.

 

No Delta aircraft were on the ground at the time of the earthquake and there are no reported injuries to employees or customers at the airport. Crew members laying over in an Anchorage hotel have been confirmed to be safe. Delta’s operational leaders are reaching out to all Anchorage-based employees to ensure their well-being and additional Delta customer service agents will be flown from Seattle to Anchorage to assist.

 

Delta operates four daily flights to and from Anchorage – three from Seattle and one from Minneapolis. A 6 a.m. flight from Anchorage to Seattle departed without incident this morning.​​

 

4 p.m. Friday:

 

Delta is continuing to monitor reports after a magnitude 7 earthquake struck near Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport at 9:30 a.m. local time Friday. The airport remains closed to commercial traffic as officials evaluate the facilities and infrastructure. Preliminary reports indicate damage to the terminal facilities and air traffic control tower.

 

No Delta aircraft were on the ground at the time of the earthquake, and there are no reported injuries to employees or customers at the airport. Crew members laying over in an Anchorage hotel have been contacted and are confirmed to be safe. Delta leaders are reaching out to all Anchorage-based employees to ensure their well being.
