Located on the iconic 8th floor of Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, Cinder House showcases sweeping views of the Gateway Arch and downtown skyline in a newly reimagined space.
Designed by internationally acclaimed designer S. Aleksandr Malinich, Co-Founder and Design Principal of R|5 DESIGN AGENCY, CASCO+R|5 created a timeless, modern interior, deeply rooted in South American and European esthetics, complimenting Chef Gerard Craft’s culinary vision for the menu.
“Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to gaze at the city’s celebrated monuments including the Gateway Arch, Mississippi River, Ead’s Bridge and Laclede’s Landing, while interiors, crafted in rich woods and smooth leather provide a comfortable level of sophistication that honour Craft’s focus on simple foods with bold flavours,” says Malinich.
Upon entering Cinder House, guests are greeted in a warm and atmospheric foyer, which provides a glimpse into the restaurant’s bar-lounge area. Oak and brass entry portals reveal a custom designed stone and wood hostess desk that warmly invites guests to have a drink at the bar or seat in the restaurant.
Drawing inspiration from the mountainous regions of South America, the interior is adorned with a variety of wood and stone textures that include white oak chevron flooring, pigmented lime-based polished plaster walls and elegant wall coverings, chosen for their similarity to textured tree bark.
“As a nod to the breathtaking hues of Perito Moreno Glacier, we incorporated rich, turquoise leather upholstered sofas, complemented by chairs in an earthen coloured plaid fabric and taupe leather. The lounge’s dominant feature includes opulent blue Amazonite countertops, which echo the Marble Caves in Patagonia,” says Malinich.
The chandeliers are specially made of unique, blackened brass. Irregular shaped blown-glass globes refer to flowering buds and branches, illuminating the main dining room in an expressive fashion. The main dining area also features an alcove dressed in dramatic blackened-blue polished plaster walls, custom wall sconces and blue antique mirrors. Brass fittings throughout the space further lend to a posh dining atmosphere.
