download-42-300x110Latin America Travel Week finished on Sunday with 1500 Melburnians flocking to the first ever Latin America Travel Expo at the Melbourne Town Hall. Meanwhile, 160 Victorian travel agents attended a Latin America travel trade expo last Thursday at the InterContinental Hotel. The events followed two similar trade and public expos in Sydney last week.

The expos were fronted by more than 50 exhibitors representing airlines, hotels, cruise lines, tour and travel operators and tourism bodies from 20 countries in South and Central America. Among the exhibitors were tourism bodies from Chile, Brazil and Colombia which have never fronted an Australian travel trade show before. The events were organised by the Australian Travel Association for Latin America . As part of the initiative, the public and travel agents wereinvited to donate gold coins to the UNHCR’s Ecuador Earthquake Appeal.

Held less than three months before the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this August, the two Latin America Travel Agent Workshops came with the theme – ‘The Changing Face of Latin America’ – aimed to address misconceptions about the region and update agents on product.
